USFS Issues Decision Notice and Finding of No Significant Impact for Wishon Quarry and Special Use Authorization associated with the Crane Valley Dam Retrofit Project

Posted on August 1st, 2010

The USFS Decision Notice made a determination to implement actions required to establish a new quarry near the old Wishon Quarry to provide rock needed for the Crane Valley Seismic Retrofit Project. The quarry project will require quarry operations generating up to 300,000 cubic yards of rock and necessitate timber removal, road improvements and water diversion during the retrofit construction. USFS Response to Public Scoping Comments

The Sierra National Forest listed the Crane Valley Seismic Retrofit Project in the Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA) starting in June of 2009, and it is still listed. A web link to the SOPA can be found on the Sierra NF projects web page:

On March 8, 2010 over 300 letters were mailed to interested participants by the USFS. The letters requested public comment on the Forest Service proposed action and described how to receive additional information on the project, the comment period, and included a link to the Environmental Assessment.  The USFS District Ranger and the ID Team reviewed all public comments received, extracted comments relating to potential issues about the project, and developed a response. All information presented in public letters was considered during environmental analysis. View the USFS response to Issues and Response to Public Scoping Comments here .
